When I began my search for a pup in '07, I called several breeders in a number of states and then found High Brass Kennels on the net, and I am glad I did. I got in contact with the Jim and Trish and told them exactly what I was looking for. They informed me that they a litter on the way that might be just what I was looking for. Their website offered information on pedigree and credentials of "Tank" and "Jiffy."
After making the deal, they kept me informed on any and all happenings. When your dog is 1100 miles away you have concerns, but Jim and Trish eliminated those concerns quickly. I wasn't going to Minnesota until late October and that was 10 wks after the scheduled pickup date for the pup. "No problem he'll be here when you get here" I was told and on the 4th day of a 10 day goose hunt running through Wisconsin and Minnesota, I couldn't take it any longer and went to Benson to pick him up. To this day, I couldn't be happier with my dog, the breeder, or the experience.
Today Ollie is 7 months old; he is a monster of a dog for his age. He is making 100 yd. retrieves and is excelling at every aspect of training; from basic obedience, double and triple retrieves, and just being an all around great dog. We had him in the field during late goose season here in Texas, planning for him to just hang out, but that ended quickly and I let him make a couple of retrieves on some lessers. He did exactly what he was bred to do "get bird, bring bird, go do it again." Oh and one more thing, gun shyness has never been an issue. Even though he was eased into it with pop guns, .22's. 20 gauges and of course 12 gauges, he has never flinched on any. Once again "get bird, bring bird, do it again." I know I have a good pup on my hands.
In conclusion, I would recommend High Brass Kennels without hesitation. Their knowledge and service have been exemplary. To anybody looking for a great retriever and most importantly a great pet and loyal friend…Jim and Trish are your answers.

Trish and Jim,
Ruby is great. She loves to retrieve especially in the water. Quite a quick learner and very even tempered. Not sure if there is that big of a difference between the males and females but she really aims to please. What a nose too, she's found duck nests 30 yards upwind and has found others the adult male went right by.

Hi Trish,
I just wanted to send you a picture of Bella’s first Pheasant retrieve (actually second). I took her out this weekend to work with some pigeons. On our way out to the field she flushed a Pheasant. It flew about 20 feet and then landed and started running, Bella chased it down tackled it and brought it back to me, still alive. I threw it up and it did the same thing. She chased it down and brought it back to me. I got the picture on the second retrieve. I decided Pheasant hunting for me will be sitting in the truck watching movies while the dog is out getting by limit (just kidding)
We absolutely love our dog. She is so well mannered, smart and lovable. I can’t wait for the fall hunt.
Thanks again,

Hi Jim and Trish.
This is Dave Z. I bought a female black puppy from your Dec breeding. I told you I would check in with you and report progress. Well Abby is progressing nicely with her field training. We have been running single marks on land and water out to about 125 yards. She is amazing at her retrieving. Un-ending desire to retrieve, decent marker, awesome hunt pattern if she does not go right to the fall and an awesome nose if she gets down-wind of the fall. She also ABSOLUTELY loves the water. In fact introduction to water was the easiest I have ever had. We went to a pond and there was no coaxing her in, she just walked in and started swiming. She swims like an adult right out the gate, none of the puppy splashing that usually starts the water work. I have introduced her to birds which she is handling well. We had the initial "what is this?" and the "I think I would rather chew on it" that all puppies have, but now is smartly bringing it back. We are working on the basic come, sit, stay, down and heel. She picked those commands up real well and recently I have started demanding compliance, where as before it was a request, rewarded with a bit of hot dog. I decided to start e-collar conditioning late last week because she seemed more than ready and she is adapting well, moving to comply with a command with ever increasing speed. In the house we are working on making her a better citizen, enforcing with a low level momentary pulse on the collar for now jumping on furniture, pulling stuff off the coffee table and chewing it and chewing shoes. Anyway she is gifted with endless energy (which at times can be a bit much in the house) but it is normal puppy stuff. I think (know) she will be a great gun dog and am pretty confident she will tear up competition at hunt tests. She just turned 5 mos today and weighs about 40 lbs. The vet figures she will probably end up at 60-65 lbs. My last lab female was 75 and I was hoping for a bit smaller dog.
